I graduated from Osaka University in 2001. Afterward, worked as a postdoctoral researcher in professor Katsushi Ikeuchi Lab. in Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo. From 2003 to 2013, I worked for the Cybermedia Center, Osaka University. In April 2013, I joined Kyoto University as an associate professor.

From Jun.2007 to 2008, I studied in Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech), GVU Center, as a visiting researcher, and worked with Dr. Matt Flagg, professor James M Rehg and professor Irfan Essa. In 2010, I was awarded the Precursory Research for Embryonic Science and Technology (PRESTO), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and become a researcher of this program.

My research area includes computer vision, robotics and computer graphics.
In particular, my main interest is observing and understanding humans such as,

  • Tracking people from image sequence
  • Analysis of human motion using motion capture
  • Generating human motion using motion capture data and other signals
  • Humanoid robots
  • Markerless motion capture
  • Analysis of corneal reflection imaging for the purpose of eye gaze tracking and further applications
