We conduct an integrated study on the analysis and synthesis of interactions among people and artifacts, aiming at modeling, designing, implementing, and evaluating intelligent interactive systems that can help people and the society. In this practical training seminar, students are invited to address following mini-projects.
(1) Interactive Character Animations using Motion Capture DatabaseObtain a user’s body movement with KINECT sensors, and synthesize an avatar’s motion that reacts to the user. The avatar’s motions are generated by using motion capture database and motion generation rules which are built in prior.
(2) Designing Dance-to-Music Choreography Games(a) Using KINECT sensor, capture a user’s dance motion performing with music. Analyze the user’s motion and evaluate how much his/her motion is matched to the music. The key technique is how to design the “matching score” between music and motions. (b) Show a dance master’s motion and ask a user to follow his movement. Develop a method how well he can follow the master’s motion.
(3) Design, Analysis and Evaluation of an interaction systemParticipants improve or modify a part of an existing interaction system, including interaction humanoid robot system (NAO), radio control helicopter (AR.Drone) and immersive collaborative interaction environment (ICIE). After that, they conduct an experiment for learning a basic method to analyze and evaluate interaction data. In the experiment, they will measure objective data, such as physiological indices and behavioral data, in order to evaluate their hypothesis.
ScheduleStudents will work on the above mini-projects according to the following schedule:1. Lecture on basic issues and task assignment.2-4. Work on individual mini-projects.5. Interim reports and presentations.6-7. Work on individual mini-project.8. Final reports and presentations.
